DO YOU OFFER IN-PERSON AND/OR TELEHEALTH SESSIONS?
I currently offer both in-person and virtual sessions. I am fully vaccinated and I take additional precautions to keep in-person sessions as safe as possible. At this time, I am only able to provide in-person sessions to patients who are fully vaccinated and (if eligible) boosted. I am also able to provide phone or video sessions using HIPAA-compliant software. In general, I believe therapy is most successful when done face-to-face. However, I know that this is not always possible, especially during a global pandemic! Telehealth sessions can also be a useful supplement to regular therapy. If you are interested in Telehealth therapy sessions, or integrating Telehealth sessions into treatment, please call for more information. Telehealth sessions are available for any California resident.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
No, but you may be able to get reimbursed by your insurance provider. I am an Out-of Network Provider for PPO insurance companies. This means that while I do not work with any insurance company, I can provide you with something called a Superbill. A Superbill is simply a receipt for the services you have received and paid for that has all of the information that an insurance company will need to consider reimbursing you for those services. Please note: If you have Kaiser or an HMO, it is very unlikely you will receive any reimbursement.
Please let me know in your initial session (or sooner) if you would like me to prepare Superbills for you.
SHOULD I PAY “OUT OF POCKET” FOR THERAPY?
Some patients choose to pursue therapy without involving their insurance company. They want to start therapy as soon as possible and don't want to deal with the maze of coverage. Insurance companies may set limits on the number of sessions permitted, the diagnoses covered, and even the kind of therapy allowed. Some therapy services, such as grief counseling or couples therapy, are often not covered at all. Insurance companies may also require a deductible before coverage begins.
Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to cover services. This diagnosis is reflected in your permanent health care record. Once the diagnosis is recorded and given to insurance, the therapist has no further ability to protect where that information goes or how it is used. There are circumstances under which an insurance company can review all of your records at their discretion. Paying out of pocket means that therapists are not required to share your information with anyone. Clients are able to work with a therapist that they choose to make decisions about their treatment. They can start therapy right away and not worry about submitting documents, surprise bills, etc.
HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU'RE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
Great question! Therapy is only as effective as the relationship between therapist and client. It is important you feel supported, understood, and safe. You will have to trust your gut! I am also careful to screen out clients that I do not think will be a good fit. If I determine that I am not the best clinician for you, I will be happy to assist you in finding an appropriate therapist.
HOW DOES THE INTAKE WORK?
The intake is a chance for us to get to know each other, and for me to begin getting all the necessary background information. For individual therapy, this typically takes 50-60 minutes. Towards the end of the hour, we will discuss if it makes sense to move forward. If we both decide it's a match, we will schedule the next session and you will be charged for the intake. However, if it doesn't seem like the right fit, or if you are not ready to initiate treatment, there is no charge. You are charged for the intake when you schedule your second session. This policy assures that we can make the best decision for you free from pressure.
HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. However, this may change depending on the nature of the session. For example, an intake session for a couple typically takes 60-75 minutes. Immigration evaluations can take 3-4 hours.
HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?
This depends on several factors including the nature, length, and frequency of sessions. Feel free to call for a complimentary consultation.
Individual Therapy: 190 (Intake 215)
Conjoint/Couples Therapy: 225 (Intake 250)
CPT Sessions: 210
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE SPOTS?
Yes. I have three sliding scale spots available for those who are not able to afford the full fee. I have a waitlist and typically reserve these spots for students or those with a clear need.
WHERE DO I PARK?
Parking is easy. There is metered parking right in front of the building and plenty of additional parking on the surrounding side streets.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
I require a 48-hour cancellation notice. Appointments cancelled within 48-hours will be billed the normal scheduled fee.
